The Tennessee Highway Safety Office provides grants to programs which are designed to reduce the number of fatalities, injuries and related economic losses resulting from traffic crashes on Tennessees roadways. Applicants may apply for funding in the following areas:
Applicants should refer to Tennessee's Highway Safety Performance Plan for information on the goals and mission of the Highway Safety Office at: https://tntrafficsafety.org/files/FFY18%20Tennessee%20Highway%20Safety%20Plan_2.pdf.
NOTE: The Department typically does not fund equipment-only requests. Equipment may be approved in conjunction with a highway safety program. Examples of allowable equipment include, but are not limited to, radar units, in-car video cameras, and checkpoint supplies.
Eligible applicants are Tennessee state and local government units, hospitals, and non-profit agencies with a vested interest in the behavioral side of traffic safety in Tennessee. Priority consideration will be given to Counties ranked high in the State for traffic incidents. A full list of these Counties is available at: https://tntrafficsafety.org/sites/default/files/countycrashrankings2014-2018.pdf.
Individual award amounts vary. Project periods will extend 12-months, starting October 1, 2019.
