The Shelter Insurance Foundation supports hospitals, parks, and organizations involved with education, breast cancer, Alzheimer's disease, child welfare, human services, and Christianity, and awards grants and scholarships to individuals.
- Agent Scholarship Program
  - The foundation annually awards $1,500 college scholarships to graduating high school seniors in communities where there is a Shelter Mutual Insurance Company agent who participates in the program. The award is selected based on scholastic achievement, participation and leadership in school and community activities, citizenship and moral character, and educational goals.
- F.V. Heinkel Award
  - The foundation awards $2,000 grants to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence in any area of science, medical research, health, education, history, athletics, or any other field designated by the foundation's board of directors. The award is named in honor of Shelter Insurance Companies' founder and first chairman.
- Grants to Individuals Program
  - Scholarships to high school seniors and to students who are children of employees or agents of Shelter Insurance. Grants also to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in selected fields and to a graduate of the Missouri School for the Deaf.
- William H. Lang Vocational Excellence Award
  - The foundation annually honors an outstanding vocational-education graduate of Missouri School for the Deaf (MSD). The award is presented at commencement ceremonies and includes a $500 savings bond.
The Shelter Insurance Foundation will provide support for organizations within the following fields of interest:
