Types of Grants
Federal: There are currently 26 federal grantmaking agencies. They provide either direct funding to the requestor or passthrough funding, in which the funds are provided to each state and states pass the funding on to the requestor within each state.
State: State agencies also provide funding through a variety of grantmaking agencies. Many of these include the passthrough funding from the federal government as well as utilizing state budgets to fund state-specific priority areas.
Foundation: Foundation funding ranges from large international corporations to small local foundations. Priority areas reflect this broad range, from global initiatives to village projects.
