Improving Efficiency, Reliability, and Flexibility of Coal-Based Power Plants

SUMMARY: Improving Efficiency, Reliability, and Flexibility of Coal-Based Power Plants program seek applications for projects to design, implement, test and validate three opportunities for strategic refurbishment/retrofit of existing coal power plants, providing a path for rapid and cost effective restoration of stability to the nation’s bulk power system while supporting the nation’s industrial and energy security priorities by enabling coal powered systems to provide reliable, secure, and affordable electricity delivered in the near term at scale.

Topic areas are:

  • Topic Area 1: Development and Implementation of Advanced Wastewater Systems
  • Topic Area 2: Engineering and Implementation of Dual Firing Retrofits
  • Topic Area 3: Development and Testing of Natural Gas Cofiring Systems

 

A total of $100 million is available for up to 15 awards.


DEADLINE: Applications are due January 7, 2026.


ELIGIBILITY: Eligible applicants include institutes of higher education, for-profit entities, non-profit entities, state and local government entities, and Indian Tribes.
